Any student enrolled at UWSP with previous experience on a wind or percussion instrument may audition for acceptance into these ensembles. Each semester, auditions are held in the first several days of classes. Audition materials and schedules are organized by Dr. John Lynch in coordination with the applied music faculty.
Symphonic Wind Ensemble
The UWSP Symphonic Wind Ensemble, founded in 1968 by Donald Greene, was the first ensemble of its kind in the state of Wisconsin. Throughout its esteemed history, the UWSP Wind Ensemble has performed at National, Regional, and State conventions and tours and continues to be an ensemble of artistic, imaginative, and collaborative excellence. This is the premier ensemble in the UWSP Symphonic Wind Ensemble family and is comprised of the most distinguished woodwind, brass, and percussionist students on campus. The UWSP Wind Ensemble often collaborates with world-renown soloists, composers, and conductors.
The UWSP Wind Symphony is an ensemble composed primarily of music majors but also includes non-majors who are interested in performing at a very high level. The Wind Symphony’s repertoire includes traditional symphonic band repertoire and contemporary excursions.
UWSP Campus Band is a non-auditioned ensemble consisting primarily of students pursuing degrees outside of music. This ensemble also gives performing opportunities to music education majors honing their skills on secondary instruments. Campus Band performs two evening concerts each semester. Rehearsals: MW 3:00-3:50pm Registration: MUS 144
