Conducting Graduate Certificate

Conducting, 6 credits

  • MUS 795 – Graduate Conducting Credits: 1-4

Choose 6 credits from the following:

  • Literature & Practice, 3-6 credits

Take one of the following courses in your primary area of interest:

  • MUED 583 – Music Education Workshop Credits: 1-3 (Choral Rehearsal Techniques or Instrumental Rehearsal Techniques topics only)
  • MUS 600 – Orchestral Music for Secondary Schools Credits: 3
  • MUS 622 – Song Literature Credits: 3
  • MUS 623 – Seminar in Choral Literature: Baroque, Classical, and Romantic Credits: 3
  • MUS 624 – History and Literature of Wind Ensemble Music Credits: 3
  • MUS 625 – Wind Ensemble Music for Secondary Schools Credits: 3
  • MUS 627 – Symphonic Music Credits: 3

Note

Students who wish to apply for this certificate must first submit a 10-15 minute video sample of their conducting, including rehearsal and performance selections to the department.

  • MUS 592 – Analytical History of Jazz Improvisation Credits: 2 or 3
  • MUS 610 – Form and Analysis I Credits: 3
  • MUS 613 – Schenkerian Analysis Credits: 3
  • MUS 615 – Contemporary Music Theory for Music Teachers Credits: 3
  • MUS 640 – Pedagogy of Music Theory Credits: 3
  • MUS 655 – Analysis, Interpretation, and Performance Credits: 3
  • MUS 779 – Artist Course in Applied Music – Composition Credits: 2 or 4 (a maximum of 4 credits may be applied to the Music Theory Graduate Certificate)

National Association of Schools of Music logo

Founded in 1924, the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) is an organization of schools, conservatories, colleges, and universities with approximately 637 accredited institutional members. It establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials for music and music-related disciplines and provides assistance to institutions and individuals engaged in artistic, scholarly, educational, and other music-related endeavors.

The College of Fine Arts and Communication at UW-Stevens Point is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
