The MME Conducting Certificate at UW–Stevens Point helps music educators build advanced skills in rehearsal leadership, technique, and performance. Learn from experienced faculty in a supportive, flexible format that fits your schedule—so you can bring greater confidence and clarity to the podium.

This 12 credit certificate is administered by the area of Music.

what to expect

You will develop essential skills for ensemble directors and classroom teachers including: student listening and analytical skills, free movement activities, sight singing with solfege, and exploration of important composers and masterworks, new and standard, within historic and cultural contexts from diverse voices. This certificate also includes work focusing on rehearsal strategies, leadership from the podium, score preparation, expressive gesture, and a survey of historical choral literature.

Conducting for the Ensemble and Classroom Teacher, 6 credits
Conducting Symposium, 3 credits
Literature and Practice, 3 credits

Note

The Conducting Graduate Certificate is open to students majoring in a graduate music degree.

Students who wish to apply for this certificate must first submit a 10-15 minute video sample of their conducting, including rehearsal and performance selections to the department.
