Instrumental Music Education
The undergraduate Instrumental Music Education Certificate at UWSP builds essential skills in ensemble leadership, pedagogy and repertoire to help you build engaging and successful instrumental programs. You will also participate in campus band or orchestra as laboratory experience.

This 17 credit certificate is administered by the area of Music in the School of Performing Arts.
complete all of the following courses:
Elementary School Instrumental Music Teaching Techniques, 2 credits
Secondary School Instrumental Music Teaching Techniques, 2 credits
Choral Music Instruction for Instrumentalists, 1 credit
Instrumental Methods-Single Reeds, 2 credits
Instrumental Methods-Violin, Viola, Cello, and String Bass, 2 credits
Instrumental Methods-Percussion, 2 credits
Instrumental Methods-Brass, 2 credits
Instrumental Methods-Double Reeds and Flute, 2 credits
Advanced Instrumental Conducting, 2 credits
Note
If voice, piano or guitar is your primary major instrument, completion of the 200 level of applied music study is required on a string, wind or percussion instrument.
Non-piano majors who are placed into applied piano study must pass the 100 level of applied piano in lieu of MUS 146, MUS 147, MUS 246.
It is only open to students admitted to the Music Education major.

Founded in 1924, the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) is an organization of schools, conservatories, colleges, and universities with approximately 637 accredited institutional members. It establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials for music and music-related disciplines and provides assistance to institutions and individuals engaged in artistic, scholarly, educational, and other music-related endeavors.
The College of Fine Arts and Communication at UW-Stevens Point is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
