Welcome to the School of Education!
a program created for teachers by teachers
In 1894, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point began as the Stevens Point Normal School, whose primary purpose was to prepare future educators. Today, the School of Education (SOE) is at the forefront of innovation in our field. We have consistently been first or second in Wisconsin for job placement.
“UWSP School of Education is top rate. I felt my teachers really cared and wanted me to be a well-prepared professional.” -Transfer Student
The SOE is the hub of teacher preparation programs at the university. Our undergraduate program is the home of Elementary Education--not only the largest but also one of the most selective majors on campus. We also prepare future teachers who are majoring in Exceptional Education, Early Childhood Education, and earning certificates in K-12 and Secondary Education. Over 1,200 full-time undergraduate students are currently enrolled in our teacher preparation programs.
“There is nothing anyone could say that would make me want to go to school somewhere else. The UWSP School of Education supported, inspired and nurtured my growth as a person and professional.” -Student Teacher
The SOE teaches the largest graduate program at UW-Stevens Point. Over 1,000 practicing teachers are enrolled in our on-campus and technology-based graduate courses. In addition, we offer a Learning Community Site-Based Masters Program which takes university courses to accessible locations to meet the needs of working professionals.
At both the undergraduate and graduate levels, the SOE offers many choices for students, including online courses and hybrid courses (a mix of online and face-to-face).
“The UWSP School of Education offered me everything I needed to become a reflective teacher. I learned strategies and effective ways to teach from the heart, not a book.”
-School of Education Senior
Our faculty members have been selected from nationwide pools of candidates for their subject matter knowledge, their ability to guide university students in intellectual discovery, and their strong research backgrounds. Our faculty members also bring practical skills with them as they have been award-winning teachers at the elementary and secondary levels. Over 90% of our courses are taught by full-time faculty members who hold PhDs in their respective fields.
“In the School of Education at UWSP you not only receive a progressive and well-respected education, you become a part of a family of educators who support you beyond graduation.”
-Student Teacher
We offer personal course advising each semester and pre-registration to help students avoid wait lists. Our class sizes are small, typically under 30 students. Our faculty are caring, energetic, and creative. We invite you to join our community!
