Paved Access Trail Work Starts in June

Starting in June, the trail that leads from the Schmeeckle visitor center parking lot to the Menzel Pavilion and Pankowski Friends Amphitheater will be CLOSED for paving.

The current trail is surfaced with crushed granite, which can be challenging to access for people in wheelchairs, pushing strollers, and using carts to haul supplies to the facilities. During the month of June, the granite trail surface will be removed and paved with concrete to provide better accessibility. In addition, a paved walkway and sitting area will be constructed at the top of the amphitheater hill to provide more options for people with mobility disabilities. A detour will be posted while the construction is in progress.

This project is being funded by the Friends of Schmeeckle Reserve through generous grants from the Seramur Foundation and the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin. Thank you to our Friends for continuing to improve accessibility in Schmeeckle!

New Schmeeckle website

Welcome to our newly designed Schmeeckle Reserve website! The website was rebuilt from the ground up to meet the new UW-Stevens Point website design standards. Schmeeckle staff spent several weeks discussing how to streamline navigation and make the website easier to use.

The website is definitely a work in progress! We will continue making edits over the next several months. If you come across any issues or have trouble finding something, please let us know. Our goal is to make the website accessible to everyone.
