Parking, Hours & Directions

Schmeeckle Reserve is conveniently located in the city of Stevens Point on the north side of the UW-Stevens Point campus, just a 5-minute drive from Interstate-39.


Parking and EV Charging

Free parking is available at the Schmeeckle Reserve Visitor Center daily from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. A free EV charging station with two charging ports is available on a first-come, first-served basis in the paved lot. The paved lot includes 4 wheelchair accessible parking spaces.

Limited street parking is also available along Wood Lane on the east side of Schmeeckle to access the Moses Creek Wetland and along the north side of Maria Drive to access Lake Joanis on the south side. Parking areas are included on the Schmeeckle trail map.


Visitor Center Hours and Directions

Schmeeckle Reserve Visitor Center

The Schmeeckle Reserve Visitor Center is open 7 days a week and offers free parking, a staffed information desk, drinking water, a gift shop, a Nature Discovery Area, and a picnic deck. The visitor center is open:

  • Monday-Friday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Saturday-Sunday: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (summer hours)
  • Closed on most major holidays. Call ahead for holiday hours (715-346-4992)

    Trail Hours

    The trails of Schmeeckle Reserve are open 365 days a year from sunrise to sunset. Written permission is required from the director for after-hours use.

    Pets are not allowed on the trails of Schmeeckle Reserve. Pet owners can park in the parking lot and use the facilities available at the Green Circle Trailhead. A Green Circle Pet Route follows North Point Drive on the north side of Schmeeckle. Pet owners can also walk sidewalks along Michigan Avenue and Maria Drive.
