Making the Most of Your Symposium

Getting ready for the Symposium is your chance to shine and share the hard work you have put in. Whether you are giving an oral presentation or showing a poster, a little preparation goes a long way. Knowing what to do before, during, and after the event will help you feel confident, organized, and ready to make the most of your experience. Use the tips below to help your presentation run smoothly and enjoy everything the Symposium has to offer. The presenter’s guide has more detailed, helpful information.

Before

Submit your Abstract
All abstracts for the 2027 Symposium are due by March 1.

Booklet Review Period
Symposium Participants will have an opportunity to review the booklet to ensure the information is accurate. Additional details will be shared via email, and the review period is scheduled for March 8-12, 2027.

Oral Presenters
Get ready to shine! Practice using your visual aids effectively and make sure your talk fits within the time limit—timing is everything. Before the Symposium kicks off, you’ll have access to designated rooms where you can rehearse, get comfortable with the space, and test out the tech setup. Use this opportunity to smooth out any last-minute hiccups and boost your confidence.

Poster Presenters
Even though you’re not giving a formal talk, preparation is still key. Think ahead about the kinds of questions people might ask and how you’ll respond—this is your chance to show off your expertise. Posters should be hung in their assigned spot before the event, ideally the night before. Pro tip: print your poster early to avoid any last-minute printing disasters.

During

Check-In
Upon arrival, visit the information table to receive your nametag and Symposium Program Booklet. This will help you navigate the day and stay on schedule.

Oral Presenters
Before your session begins, confirm that the room setup meets your needs—check the technology, seating, and presentation materials. Be sure to check in with your moderator to coordinate timing and logistics.

Poster Presenters
Ensure your poster is properly displayed and that all supporting materials are ready. Be present at your poster during your assigned time slots to engage with attendees and answer questions.

Stay Informed
Monitor for any last-minute updates or changes to the schedule or room assignments. Staying flexible will help you make the most of your presentation experience.

After

Take a moment to relax, you have earned it. All your hard work and preparation have paid off. Whether you presented a poster or gave an oral talk, you should be proud of what you accomplished and how much you’ve learned throughout the process.

Evaluation forms will be reviewed after the event. Top honors will be announced the week following the symposium.

Clive and Beverley David Research Scholarship

The Clive and Beverley David Research Scholarship honors the lives and careers of Clive and Beverley David, Ph.D., who both served on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Clive David was a professor of forestry in the College of Natural Resources from 1989 until his death in 2004. A champion of undergraduate research and innovative technology, he was an early advocate for use of geographic information systems (GIS) in the classroom. He also helped launch the college’s CNR Student Research Symposium in 2000.

Beverley David, now retired, joined the Department of World Languages and Literatures in 1991 and taught French and Spanish until 2015. Her dedication to students earned her the UW-Stevens Point Excellence in Teaching Award in 2000 and the University Service Award in 2013.

The scholarship is funded by the Clive and Beverley David Research Scholarship Endowment, made possible through generous gifts in Clive’s memory from the David family, alumni, and friends. It supports students, who share their passion for learning, research, and innovation.
