Fieldwork That Transforms Classwork Into Real-World Impact
Ready to trade the classroom for the outdoors? The Summer Field Experience is a core part of your journey in the College of Natural Resources at UW-Stevens Point. You will spend several weeks living and learning at field stations, getting hands-on training in forestry, wildlife, water, soils, and more. It is challenging, immersive, and one of the most memorable parts of your time in the CNR.
Students also have the opportunity to participate in international field experiences in Kenya and Europe, where they will explore global conservation issues, engage with local experts, and gain a whole new perspective on natural resource management.

Sample Grad Plans
As a current student, you will find a sample graduation plan for each of our programs to help you stay on track and plan ahead. We recommend discussing your plan with your academic advisor and using your degree progress report to guide your course selection. This will ensure you are on the right path toward completing your degree.
Chemical Engineering
We focus on preparing Chemical Engineering graduates for highly technical positions in the chemical manufacturing industry, making important products in millions of people’s lives.
Conservation and Community Planning
Combine natural science knowledge with social science skills to guide stakeholders in making resource management decisions, learn to create healthy, sustainable communities in rural and urban areas, and work with landowners to conserve their land with a degree in conservation and community planning.
Conservation Law Enforcement
Our Conservation Law Enforcement program combines academic backgrounds in natural resources, criminal justice, communication, social sciences, and humanities with specialized training in law enforcement.
Environmental Education and Interpretation (EEI and Wildlife Education Options)
The Environmental Education and Interpretation program combines coursework and hands-on learning in natural resources, outdoor education, recreation, biology, and specialized communication techniques to develop relevant knowledge and practical skills.
Environmental Science and Management
Gain a broad-based foundation in natural resource management, offering a valuable initial stepping stone for a career in natural resources. A strong program can be built by complementing Environmental Science and Management with a minor in forestry, soil science, water resources, or wildlife.
Fisheries and Water Resources
Study and manage fish, aquatic wildlife, streams, lakes, groundwater, watersheds, and water quality for ecosystems and human use. Choose from fisheries and aquatic sciences, hydrology, or water resources, each offering specialized training and customizable programs.

We are the home of the only pilot-scale paper machine laboratory in Wisconsin. This offers you unique opportunities to learn, including all aspects of the safe and efficient equipment operation.
Soil and Waste Resources
Whether you’re focused on improving crop production, creating sustainable land-use strategies, or managing waste and environmental protection, our program offers the knowledge and skills to make a difference. You can specialize in soil science and land management or waste management and environmental protection while gaining valuable hands-on experience in labs and field courses.

Wildlife Ecology
Wildlife Ecology courses focus on the problem-solving and scientific skills you need to understand the ecological interactions affecting wildlife management, including game, non-game, endangered, and invasive species. Additionally, we provide practical, hands-on experiences both inside and outside the classroom. Our program also qualifies you for a wildlife biology certification by The Wildlife Society.
Navigate Your Major
Major Maps help students map their first day to the first job in their chosen field. While a four-year plan outlines classes to get a degree, Major Maps help students learn how to build career-ready skills and experiences outside the classroom.
