Jim and Katie Krause CNR Student Research Symposium

Celebrating Discovery, Innovation, and Student Research Excellence

The Jim and Katie Krause CNR Student Research Symposium highlights the curiosity, creativity, and dedication of students in the College of Natural Resources at UW–Stevens Point. Every year, student researchers share their groundbreaking work across fields like fisheries and water resources, forestry, wildlife ecology, environment and society, paper science and engineering, and soil and waste resources.

For months, students immerse themselves in data collection, field studies, and analysis, gaining hands-on experience that deepens their understanding of the natural world and its connection to human communities. Guided by passionate faculty mentors, these emerging scientists turn innovative ideas into meaningful research that goes beyond the classroom, shaping the future of conservation.

Save the date for next year’s event on Friday, April 16, 2027.

From Achievements to Inspiration

The Jim and Katie Krause College of Natural Resources (CNR) Student Research Symposium is your chance to share your work, learn from others, and celebrate the research happening across the college. At the 2026 symposium, students presented projects on topics like forestry, wildlife, water, and environmental science, showcasing the creativity and passion that drive our students.

The next symposium will take place on Friday, April 16, 2027, in the Trainer Natural Resources Building. Whether you plan to present or just want to explore what others are doing, it’s a great way to get involved and inspired.

Clive and Beverley David Research Scholarship

The Clive and Beverley David Research Scholarship honors the lives and careers of Clive and Beverley David, Ph.D., who both served on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

Clive David was a professor of forestry in the College of Natural Resources from 1989 until his death in 2004. A champion of undergraduate research and innovative technology, he was an early advocate for use of geographic information systems (GIS) in the classroom. He also helped launch the college’s CNR Student Research Symposium in 2000.

Beverley David, now retired, joined the Department of World Languages and Literatures in 1991 and taught French and Spanish until 2015. Her dedication to students earned her the UW-Stevens Point Excellence in Teaching Award in 2000 and the University Service Award in 2013.

The scholarship is funded by the Clive and Beverley David Research Scholarship Endowment, made possible through generous gifts in Clive’s memory from the David family, alumni, and friends. It supports students, who share their passion for learning, research, and innovation.
