Description
Log graders and scalers identify the species, quality, and volume of logs. They check logs in the yard for rot and other defects, straightness, length and diameter to estimate the quality of lumber that can be milled from a log. They also track how many logs are delivered and used at the mill. Log graders and scalers often use handheld recording devices to keep inventory and may move, load and unload logs, and paint the ends of logs for identification.
