Prescribed Fire for Forest Management Webinar Series

Monthly on Wednesdays | Times Vary

Foresters and land managers have many management tools at their disposal. A tool that’s often overlooked is prescribed fire. Prescribed fire for forest management is important for ecosystem health, forest regeneration, wildlife habitat, forest health, and disease control. Join us for insightful discussions with national experts as we discuss forest management using prescribed fire. Learn some of the practical knowledge of where, when, why, and how to apply fire in forest ecosystems.

Due to the generosity of our sponsors, we are pleased to offer this webinar series for free. Registration is not required.

MEET YOUR HOSTS

Wisconsin Forestry Center

The Wisconsin Forestry Center (WFC) is dedicated to serving the needs of Wisconsin’s forestry community through partner-driven professional and workforce development, applied research, and community outreach initiatives that promote vibrant, sustainable forests and forest-based economies.

Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources

Wisconsin’s 17 million acres of forestlands and millions of urban trees significantly enhance the quality of life in our state. The Wisconsin DNR dedicates itself to the sustainable management and protection of this precious resource so that it continues to provide a host of ecological, economic and social benefits for years to come. Wildland fire management in Wisconsin prioritizes the protection of human life, property and natural resources from unwanted wildfires while strategically using prescribed fires to enhance our natural communities and the ecosystems we manage. Education, safety and training programs and an extensive network of partners are utilized to suppress, manage and prepare for fires statewide.

Lake States Fire Science Consortium

The mission of the Lake States Fire Science Consortium is to accelerate the awareness, understanding, and adoption of wildland fire science information by federal, tribal, state, local, and private stakeholders across the Lake States from Minnesota to New York, and the adjacent Canadian provinces of Ontario and Manitoba. Our vision is to provide the “best available” information on fire and fuels for a variety of audiences. The Consortium aims to link managers, scientists, policymakers, and disciplines by providing information and tools to support management of fire-dependent ecosystems in the Lake States region.

Tallgrass Prairie & Oak Savanna Fire Science Consortium

Tallgrass Prairie and Oak Savanna Fire Science Program (TPOS) is a regional network funded by the Joint Fire Science Program that connects fire researchers and managers. It facilitates the sharing of information, research, and tools to improve the application of prescribed fire within the tallgrass prairie and oak savanna ecosystems.

Joint Fire Science Program

The Joint Fire Science Program (JFSP) delivers wildland fire science to help managers make informed, on-the-ground decisions. Since 1998, JFSP has supported applied research that tackles real-world challenges—from understanding fire behavior and ecosystem recovery to improving community preparedness and firefighter safety.
