The Green & Healthy Schools Healthy Indoor Spaces Kit provides resources for educators and students to conduct an investigation of environmental health in their school. When a school environment is unhealthy, students may be exposed to harmful pollutants and chemicals that may cause their health, attendance, and academic performance to suffer. “Environmental health” is a broad topic and covers many areas including cleaning and maintenance, mold and moisture, chemical and environmental contaminant hazards, ventilation, and pests and pesticides. This kit includes tools to measure noise levels, temperature, moisture, air quality, carbon dioxide, and humidity levels. Using these tools, students have the opportunity to investigate whether their school is a healthy place to learn and make recommendations about areas that need attention. Classrooms and schools are encouraged to use this kit to support earning a Healthy Spaces Badge from Green and Healthy Schools Wisconsin.
