Students will develop a range of skillsets to critically evaluate digital social media culture and content, interrogate platform economics, and understand algorithmic influences on digital culture. The Podcasting Certificate provides students with media and journalism training for one of the fastest growing areas of digital media storytelling.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Through this certificate, students will gain experience with the fundamentals of writing, producing, and distributing podcasts, with the objective of students to eventually produce original podcast content for distribution. Students will be provided instruction of the technical audio production skills required to produce podcasts including audio and video production, recording and mixing techniques, dialogue and narration recording, principles of field recording, mixing for podcasts, and finalizing processes for podcast distribution. Students will also be able to develop ideation strategies for concept development as well as professional approaches to journalistic, scriptwriting, and editorial resources.

Your very first semester at UWSP you will begin taking introductory classes toward the pre-professional program. You will also take studio art courses in a variety of two- and three-dimensional art with the option of selection a BA (Bachelor of Art) or a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) upon completion of the foundation art coursework. Preprofessional Art Therapy courses include Intro to Art Therapy and Art Therapy Field Experience.

Pre-professional programs are designed to provide students with the necessary coursework and advising support to prepare for a professional school. The pre-professional program is not a major, minor, or certificate, and it does not appear as a credential on a student’s transcript.
To complete the pre-professional program and earn an undergraduate degree, students must declare a major, which serves as the primary area of study. The choice of major is flexible; students are encouraged to select a major that aligns with their academic interests. Contact the appropriate pre-professional adviser for guidance as early as possible.

Our BFA in Art is called the Integrative Studio Arts degree because it allows you to integrate classes in multiple disciplines. This professional degree requires 78 credits within the major, yet it is all about the creative direction YOU want to take. To start with you take a solid core of art studios and then get to choose classes that pique your interest—such as performance, lighting or costume design, video, or sound production. If you want to spend every waking hour in the painting studio, building sculpture, throwing pots, or making prints, this program allows for that too.

The mission of the Interior Architecture (IA) program is to prepare interior designers who are globally aware citizens and leaders in community development, proficient in creating aesthetically, socially, culturally, and environmentally responsible interiors. The focus is on the ability to design quality interior environments that contribute to the well-being and safety of individuals and groups along with incorporating a concern for the environmental well-being of the earth, including sustainable design. The visionary, conceptual, exploratory and analytical abilities of students in the Interior Architecture program are developed through studies in liberal arts and sciences and professional design preparation. The purpose is to graduate professional interior designers who are able to synthesize knowledge and who are able to creatively solve problems for a wide range of physical interior environments, including residential and commercial, and for a diverse group of users.
As an interior architecture student at UW-Stevens Point, you will engage in an exciting, yet extensive, professional training, designing an array of interior spaces ranging from residential homes to corporate office to multiuse spaces such as a senior living facility. In addition, this four-year curriculum is carefully formulated to teach you design history, design communication and drawing, socio-cultural aspects of design, technology and sustainable design.

You will have frequent field trips to examine interior design firsthand, including Chicago, Minneapolis, Milwaukee and Madison. These study tours allow you to visit design showrooms and art museums, get an up-close look at design firms, learn about career opportunities and network with professionals in the field.

The Media Studies major at UW-Stevens Point offers a forward-thinking curriculum giving students the knowledge, skills, and experience they need to engage critically with media content and technologies by using media history, theory, aesthetics and criticism to inform their production practices. WHY STUDY PROFESSIONAL COMMUNICATION AT UW-STEVENS POINT?
Professional communication students at UWSP explore the complex nature of communication in everyday life and its importance to success in business and personal contexts. Students are encouraged to explore a range of communication behaviors in and across mediated channels and have the opportunity to take courses in print and multimedia journalism, radio, television and film. Skills gained by graduation are transferable to working in teams and improving workplace communication.

WHAT TO EXPECT as a professional communication student
We are a Hands-on Program We are a very hands-on program with access to facilities and equipment. We also have wonderful student-run organizations in radio, television, filmmaking, journalism, and social media. From day one on campus, students are welcome to participate and create content with these organizations.
London Externship Program Qualified students are able to work in London during their senior year in our externship program. This is a wonderful opportunity for highly motivated students to experience a professional work experience in an urban setting. Students have worked for NBC News, the Associated Press, top British public relations firms, Parliament, theatres and many other exciting venues.
Visiting Artists / Workshops Every year we host different visiting artists who hold workshops and give lectures on campus. Student groups sponsor events and individuals also travel to attend talks or weekend workshops.
Capstone Project To prepare for transition into the professional world, during your final semester you will complete a project that integrates knowledge, skills, and experience int he major.

This 37 credit minimum major is administered by the area of Communication in the School of Design and Communication. The Professional Communication major facilitates the development of skill sets to prepare graduates for success in contemporary workplaces.
In professional communication, you complete core courses and electives from public relations and workplace communication. Complementary electives from arts management, business, and media studies may be used to complete major requirements. Upon completing major requirements, you will be prepared to work in a wide variety of organizations and business-related professions.
