Major and Career Exploration

Use the Major Exploration Guide to help guide you!

Finding the right major and career path can be a stressful, yet exciting, part of your college career. Your Academic Adviser focuses a portion of advising on major and career exploration. There are many useful campus resources which assist in guiding students to find the right major and career path. Students that engage in a major exploration plan often discover their majors before the end of the third semester.

Explore Majors

You may not know what career you would like to pursue, but you can begin your search by exploring majors, minors, and certificates. Remember that it is not always true that major = career, and many career pathways are possible through many different majors. Knowing what majors, minors, and certificates interest you can be a great step towards finding your purpose.

Explore Careers

While most often students discover what major they want to pursue and then what careers they would like to pursue with their major, the opposite is also true! It is possible to identify a career field you would like to go into, and then decide on what may be the best academic pathway for you to follow to gain employment in that career field.
