High-achieving students in our programs are eligible for many significant awards and scholarships, thanks to generous support from our alumni, friends and corporate partners. Increasingly, our awards reflect the university’s vision of providing challenging learning and leadership experiences that prepare students to be global citizens. These scholarships are typically awarded in the spring. Application is currently closed.
The Sentry School of Business and Economics hosted its annual Scholarship and Awards Banquet on Friday, April 28 in the UW-Stevens Point Dreyfus University Center, sponsored by Associated Bank. The school presented 78 scholarships and awards, totaling $93,700 to students. Congratulations to all the award winners and thank you to our donors for your continued support.
To apply for scholarships, complete the scholarship application and submit your DPR, résumé, statement of career goals, and statement of need by Jan. 21, 2024. Your application will be reviewed by the Awards and Recognition Committee and you will be notified by email if you are selected for an award.
Honorees will be invited to receive their awards at our annual Scholarship and Awards Banquet on Friday, April 26, 2024 (if possible). Recipients receive 2 complimentary meals in addition to the award. Recipients are expected to attend this event. Awards may range from $500 to approximately $3,000.
Business Advisory Council Scholarship
The Sentry School of Business and Economics Business Advisory Council (BAC) was formed to keep our programs relevant to the needs of regional organizations – our external stakeholders. The BAC members are the business leaders from various industries. The inaugural meeting was September 2011. Through the generous contributions of our BAC members, we are able to award scholarships to our talented students.
Central Wisconsin Apartment Association
This scholarship is for students majoring in the School of Business and Economics with an emphasis in Finance, Insurance & Real Estate (FIRE). Preference will be given to a student with high quality extra-curricular activity related to real estate.
Central Wisconsin Board of Realtors Scholarship
Student must be majoring in business administration, economics or managerial accounting. Student must have completed or intend to complete courses directly or indirectly related to the real estate profession. Preference is given to a student residing in Portage County. Financial need is not a primary factor in consideration for this scholarship.
Cliff King Memorial Scholarship
Award will be given to a major or minor in the School of Business and Economics and/or Computer Information Systems with preference given to a military veteran.
CliftonLarsonAllen Accounting Scholarship
Award will be given to an outstanding junior or senior (with at least one full time semester remaining) with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Student must have frequent participation in SBE activities and high academic achievement with preference to those with the intent to enter the field of public accounting or related field.
DaWalt Family Economics Scholarship
Award will be given to a junior or senior economics major or minor who demonstrates exceptional promise in financial planning.
Expanding Horizons Scholarship
This award was created to provide School of Business and Economics majors with the opportunity to study outside of the United States in a foreign environment developing their awareness of other cultures and experiencing people of all countries. Students in the School of Business and Economics who have registered to participate in a credit-earning semester abroad program are eligible for this scholarship. Preference is given to non-traditional students, students with established financial need, students who have, are currently enrolled in or are registered in an insurance class, and students with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
Gordon Haferbecker Scholarships
Two scholarships are awarded to both a junior standing and senior standing majoring in business administration, managerial accounting, or economics with a minimum cumulative and major GPA of 3.0. Awards are given to students who show character, need, and scholarship.
Jeffrey E and Sally A Fiddler CPS Scholarship
Award will be given a continuing junior or senior pursuing degree in accounting/business fields.
John C. Seramur Scholarship
Award will be given to UWSP students pursuing a bachelor or master’s degree in a UWSP School of Business and Economics program. Students must have at least one semester remaining at UWSP after the award is granted. Academic achievement–current students minimum 3.0 overall GPA; incoming students minimum 3.5 overall high school GPA. Applicants should include a written statement, not to exceed 250 words, explaining why they chose their major and sharing future plans, as well as two letters of recommendation from two department members.
Kevin and Jordan Ile Scholarship
Award will be given a junior or senior majoring in finance with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
Larry and Julia Weiser International Scholarship
This award is available to UWSP students with good academic standing. Preference is given to students majoring or minoring in economics, business administration, accounting (in that order). The scholarship is to be used for international study. Preference is also given to students with financial need.
Leonard F. DeBaker Scholarship
Award will be given to a sophomore, junior or senior in the Sentry School of Business and Economics who is a graduate of a Wisconsin high school with preference to a graduate of a Portage County high school. Student should be actively engaged in school programs, clubs, and community events where there is demonstrated service and leadership, and must maintain a GPA of 3.0.
MBA 4+1 Scholarships
Mark and Julie Smiley Business Scholarship
This scholarship is for a first-generation college student majoring in business. Preference will be given to a student in good academic standing, but who wouldn’t necessarily qualify for a merit-based scholarship. Preference will be given to a student who has strong entrepreneurial characteristics (creative, persuasive, risk tolerant, motivated, future-oriented, etc.). Mark and Julie are both alumni of the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Mark graduated with a business administration degree in 1985 and Julie graduated with a communication degree in 1987.
Student should be graduating from a UWSP School of Business and Economics program at the end of the spring term and accepted in the master’s program for the following term by the scholarship application deadline.
MBA Continuing Student Scholarships
Student should be enrolled in MBA classes and be in good standing in the program.
Michael and Melba Sullivan Scholarship
Awarded to an outstanding business administration, economics or accounting major who is enrolled in a UWSP international program for the next academic year.
Northwestern Mutual – Bob Taylor Scholarship
Preference will be given to students who meet one or more of the following criteria:
Randy and Patricia Cray Scholarship for Academic Achievement
Award will be given to an outstanding junior or senior as evidenced by academic achievement, demonstrated leadership, and involvement in student activities. Must be a major in business administration, economics, or managerial accounting with a minimum 3.50 GPA and at least 90 credits completed towards major. Preference is given to a student majoring in economics.
Ross and Eleanor Roberts Scholarship
This scholarship is for a student who is enrolled in a graduate program in the UWSP Sentry School of Business and Economics.
School of Business and Economics Emergency Scholarship
The SBE Emergency Scholarship is for SBE students experiencing significant unforeseen financial hardship threatening the continuation of their studies. In order to qualify, students must complete an application through the School of Business and Economics, clearly describing their emergency need. Recipients may be required to participate in a UWSP Financial Coaching Program. Awarded: Scholarships can be awarded at any time of year dependent on available funding.
Scott and Julie Wallace Internship Scholarship
Students who apply must be a major in the School of Business and Economics. In addition, the student must be registered for an internship for credit and complete the internship from the previous spring, summer, or fall internship programs. Preference is given to a junior or senior.
Sentry/Carl N. Jacobs Scholarship
Award will be given to an outstanding junior or senior business administration or managerial accounting major with a minimum GPA of 3.25. Special consideration is given to students pursuing actuarial sciences in honor of Carl N. Jacobs and for financial need.
Steve and Shari Day SBE Internship Award
To provide a scholarship to an SBE student wishing to participate in a non-profit internship opportunity. Preference given to military veteran or drilling reservist or guardsman. Minimum 3.0 GPA and participating in a non-profit internship experience in the coming year.
Tax Executive Institute Scholarship
Award will be given to an upcoming junior or senior accounting major with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Student must be a resident of Wisconsin. Interest in tax preferred but not required.
Trish and Mick Howen School of Business and Economics Scholarship
This scholarship is for a non-traditional, part-time student who shows character and determination to complete their degree while managing other challenges outside of school. Applicants must have financial need, a minimum GPA of 3.25, majoring in accounting or business administration, and at least junior status. Preference will be given to veterans, first generation students, students with full-time employment, and students with children under the age of 18.
W.B. Greaton Scholarship
Award will be given to a first year, sophomore, junior or senior with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and a declared major in business administration, accounting or economics.
Joey Trzebiatowski Memorial Scholarship

Cheri Smith Scholarship
Available to UWSP juniors or seniors in the School of Business and Economics. A student receiving this scholarship as a junior may re-apply again as an incoming senior. This scholarship is offered through the Central Wisconsin Community Foundation.
