The Carlsten Art Gallery features a diverse range of exhibitions, from burgeoning student talent to internationally recognized artists, with themes that explore topics relevant to our campus and Central Wisconsin communities. Carlsten Gallery is a space for engaging displays and community-driven events. As part of UWSP’s College of Fine Arts and Communication, the gallery fosters an environment of creative exploration and academic excellence, guided by a dedicated team of faculty, staff, and scholars.

This dynamic exhibit highlights the diverse talent within SDC and celebrates with our greater Wisconsin community the expertise and passion that UWSP faculty bring to teaching and their art. Students have a unique opportunity to connect with their instructors beyond the classroom. By showcasing personal work, faculty members reveal their artistic processes, inspirations, and professional practices. Collectively, the exhibiting faculty represent all programs within SDC including: Art, Art History, Graphic Design, Interior Architecture, and Media Studies.

Located on the second floor of the Noel Fine Arts Center, The Carlsten Art Gallery exhibits local, national, and international artists, hosts community events, and contributes to overseeing and maintaining a unique permanent collection of fine art and design works. The gallery is a beautiful space with three ceiling mounted projectors and a sound system that can be used through the entire gallery or specific spaces.

Housed within the Carlsten Art Gallery is the Schneider Gallery, dedicated to showcasing current and past student works, allowing experimentation, research, and real-world gallery experience. If you have interest in using the space, or working with the Carlsten Art Gallery, please contact us.

Schneider Student Gallery

The heartbeat of Carlsten and School of Design & Communication — a gallery within the gallery dedicated to showcasing work created by and/or curated by students.

Programming in the Schneider Gallery is uniquely cohesive with Carlsten in ways of concept and/or educational construct. So the overall exhibition experience can exponentially better serve artists, students, audiences and the themes themselves.

Made possible by the generosity of Richard & Myrna Schneider, this dedicated space presents student solo, group, or classroom installations and projects.

These include dance, music, and theater performances, master classes, guest artists, gallery exhibitions, SPTV broadcasts, WWSP radio programs, media and video productions among many other student-created pieces.
