SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
You can obtain your social security card at the Social Security Office, 2213 8th Street South, Wisconsin Rapids. You must have a passport, a valid student visa and a letter from a campus employer to be eligible for a social security number. For more information regarding social security, call 1-800-772-1213.
DRIVER’S LICENSE
You can obtain your Wisconsin driver’s license at the Dept. of Transportation, 1001 Maple Bluff Rd., Stevens Point, 345-5321. You must possess a valid driver’s license to be eligible to drive a motor vehicle, motorcycles, motorbikes require a different class of license. Make sure you take valid photo identification, including your social security number.
WISCONSIN IDENTIFICATION CARD
A Department of Transportation-Wisconsin Identification card can be obtained at the Dept. of Transportation, 1001 Maple Bluff Rd., Stevens Point, 345-5321. This card identifies you with a personal picture and your birth date. You will need a certified birth certificate or passport and one other form of identification. The card costs $4.
BICYCLE REGISTRATION
If you own a bike, you must get it registered. You can register your bike at Stevens Point Police Dept. 933 Michigan Ave. Stevens Point, 346-1500. The cost is $6. Unregistered bikes may be fined. Bicyclists must obey the same traffic regulations as motor vehicle drivers do.
FISHING AND HUNTING LICENSES
Fishing or hunting enthusiasts must purchase licenses or risk hefty fines. Licenses are available at many local establishments including Wal-Mart and K-Mart. Fishing licenses are good for one year. Be sure to fish and hunt only in authorized areas and not on private property.

CITY STREETS-TRAFFIC AND PARKING
Due to heavy pedestrian traffic, traffic laws are strictly enforced by police. Please obey all traffic laws and regulations. On-street parking laws are also enforced by the City Police. Overnight parking from 2 a.m. to 6 a.m. on city streets is prohibited year round. Obey parking signs and meters on city streets. Failure to do so may result in a citation and fine.
CAMPUS PARKING
Parking on campus lots is by permit only, except in metered areas. Only vehicles with a current and properly displayed permit are authorized to use campus parking lots. You may purchase a parking permit at the Parking Office, George Stien building, 346-3900. Please obey parking regulations and place proper coins in meters in parking lots. Failure to do so may result in costly fines. Campus parking is enforced by Parking Services.

LICENSE PLATE
License plates are required on any automobile or motorcycle. If you purchase a new or used vehicle, you must buy a new license plate, which must be renewed yearly. Be sure to keep your title or vehicle registration in a safe place. License plates also may be obtained at the Department of Transportation, 345-5321.
INSURANCE
It is unlawful in Wisconsin to operate or to allow another to operate your motor vehicle without liability insurance.
ACCIDENTS
If you are involved in an accident, do not move your vehicle until the police arrive and advise you to do so. Exchange identification and insurance information with the other parties involved in the accident. Police will complete an accident report form if property damages of $1,000 or more are sustained. A copy of the report can be obtained at the law enforcement agency that responded to the accident.
MISSING STUDENT
MISSING STUDENT NOTIFICATION POLICY
Policy:
This policy, with its accompanying procedures, establishes a framework for cooperation among members of the University community aimed at locating and assisting students who are reported missing. A student shall be deemed missing when he or she is absent from the University for more than 24 hours without any known reason. All reports of missing students shall be directed to Police and Security Services. Police and Security Services shall investigate each report and make a determination whether the student is missing in accordance with this policy. All students shall have the opportunity to identify an individual to be contacted by Police and Security Services in the event that the student is determined missing. If a missing student is under 18 years of age, Police and Security Services is required to notify the parent or guardian of the missing student not later than 24 hours after determination was made that the student is missing. Police and Security Services will also notify area law enforcement no later than 24 hours after it determines that the student is missing.
Procedure:
Notification
- Any report of a missing student, from whatever source, should immediately be directed to Police and Security Services.
- When a student is reported missing Police and Security Services shall:
- Initiate an investigation to determine the validity of the missing person report.
- Contact the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
- Make a determination as to the status of the missing student.
- Notify the individual identified by the missing student as the emergency contact within 24 hours of making the determination that the student is missing.
- If the missing student is under the age of 18, notify the student’s custodial parent or guardian as contained in the records of the University as soon as it is determined the student is missing.
- Notify the Stevens Point Police Department within 24 hours after determining that student is missing so that a National Crime Information Center (NCIC) entry can be made.
The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and the Director of Housing and Residence Life will be notified by staff and the vice chancellor for student affairs shall initiate whatever action he or she deems appropriate under the circumstances in the best interest of the missing student.

Students shall be given an opportunity to designate emergency contact information on the university website and on their emergency information card that is completed while they reside in the residence halls.

WISCONSIN SEX OFENDERS
OFFENDERS AFFILIATED WITH UWSP CAMPUS
The Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act of 2000 is an amendment to the Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Registration Act. The act requires sex offenders, who must register under state law, to provide notice of enrollment or employment at any institution of higher education in that state where the offender resides, as well as notice of each change of enrollment or employment status at the institution.
Sex offender information in the State of Wisconsin is compiled by the Department of Corrections (DOC). The DOC website allows you to search their sex offender database online.
To learn the identity of registered sex offenders on or near campus, or anywhere in Wisconsin, visit the Wisconsin Department of Corrections Sex Offender Registry. This site can be searched by zip code or by name.
