UWSP officers work hard to create a safe environment for people to live, work and study in. However, in order to be effective, we need your help. Alcohol Safety
UWSP Police and Security Services has numerous alcohol-related incidents. The drinking age is 21, and that means people younger than 21 should not be in possession of or under the influence of alcohol.
In addition, no one – even those 21 or older – are permitted to have open containers of alcohol in public.

By putting your emergency contact numbers under an “In Case of Emergency” entry in your cell phone’s phone book, you are giving UWSP Police and Security Services and other emergency personnel a valuable tool.
Rohypnol and personal safety
Rohypnol, also known as “The date rape drug,” is a very potent sleeping pill that has gained a lot of attention throughout the years. The drug is used to sedate the victim to the point that consciousness is lost. Tablets have no taste and are colorless when diluted.
There have been numerous reports of Rohypnol being placed surreptitiously in a drink as a prelude to rape. The individual taking the drug may not remember the next several hours after the drug is ingested. People who have ingested Rohypnol, particularly when coupled with alcohol, will have very little or no recall of events that have transpired. At sufficient doses, amnesia may occur. Sedation occurs 20 to 30 minutes after ingestion with peak effect at one to two hours. However, these times can vary depending on how the victim’s body reacts to the drug. Sedation lasts for eight hours after 2 mg’s is ingested orally. Symptoms include drowsiness, impaired motor skills, impaired judgment, disinhibition, dizziness, confusion and amnesia.
Safety Tips
- Never leave your drink unattended.
- Never allow someone to get a drink for you unless it is in a sealed container and you open it yourself.
- Be especially cautious about mixed drinks.
