Department of Music Music [BA] Degree



The Bachelor of Arts in Music degree provides a solid core of music study including music theory/musicianship, jazz studies, applied performance study, and large ensemble participation in state-of-the-art facilities. Electives are available for the curious!

UWSP Horn Students


Students in the music majors benefit from performing the classics of their literature.  Recent performances include Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, numerous works for Wind Band or Wind Ensemble by Frank Ticheli (with the composer on the podium in a guest residency), Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, Brahms’ German Requiem and many others.

Recent guest artists include Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center, Yo-Yo Ma, Craig Jessup, former conductor of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and Philip Glass, just to name a few. These artists present concerts and master classes that will change the way you think about music! Critical to the music curriculum, students at UWSP participate in many of the following ensembles:

 Students may join one or more of the service and pre-professional organizations such as Phi Mu Alpha and Delta Omicron, or collegiate chapters of Music Teacher’s National AssociationAmerican String Teacher’s Association, and other national organizations for musicians.


The low student-to-faculty ratio in the Department of Music provides our students with opportunities for personal attention.

National Association of Schools of Music

Founded in 1924, the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) is an organization of schools, conservatories, colleges, and universities with approximately 637 accredited institutional members. It establishes national standards for undergraduate and graduate degrees and other credentials for music and music-related disciplines and provides assistance to institutions and individuals engaged in artistic, scholarly, educational, and other music-related endeavors.

The College of Fine Arts and Communication at UW-Stevens Point is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music.
