ONGOING SUPPORT
The Office of International Education will continue to support and assist you during your time at UWSP! Located in the Academic Success Suite inside the Library & Student Resource Center (SRC), our staff team is happy to help you with various types of support.
Longitudinal Immigration Advising (F‑1/J‑1 Compliance & Benefits Across the Student Lifecycle)
We provide ongoing, stage-based advising that aligns with students’ progression in their immigration status—from arrival through program completion and beyond. This includes guiding students on when they become eligible for key benefits (e.g., on-campus employment, CPT, OPT, Academic Training, etc.) and helping them strategically plan to maximize these opportunities while maintaining compliance.
Accessible, Relationship-Centered Advising
OIE staff serve as consistent, trusted points of contact where students can ask questions, share concerns, and receive individualized guidance. Services are available by appointment through Navigate, ensuring structured, timely access to personal advising.
Proactive Education & Preventative Guidance
Through orientations, workshops, and regular communication, we equip students with the knowledge they need before issues arise—covering topics such as status maintenance, work authorization, and travel guidance. Our aim is to provide students with the information they need to prevent unintentional violations and build their confidence.
Academic & Institutional Navigation
We assist students in understanding U.S. academic expectations, course registration, and institutional processes, and collaborate with campus partners to address academic challenges—supporting student success both inside and outside the classroom.
Co-Curricular Engagement & Sense of Belonging
OIE encourages participation in campus life, cultural programming, and community-building opportunities to reduce isolation and foster belonging. We position OIE as a “home base” where international students can connect, engage, and grow.
Care, Advocacy, and Crisis Response
We provide compassionate support during personal, academic, or immigration-related challenges and advocate for students when appropriate. This includes referrals to campus resources (health, counseling, housing, etc.) and guidance during unexpected or complex situations.
