Are computer repair services available?

For Students

The Service Desk offers some student computer repair services including:

  • Virus and malware removal
  • System rebuilds
  • Data recovery
  • Data migration
  • Software installations
  • System Upgrades
  • Some hardware issues (out-of-warranty computers)

Customers who bring in their computers will be assisted for up to 20 minutes to troubleshoot and attempt to resolve any issues. Issues that take more than 20 minutes must be checked-in to receive further service.

Technicians have the authority to determine if an issue will exceed the 20 minute service threshold. In these cases, the customer may be asked to check in their device immediately.

During semester start-up and other specific times of the academic year, the number of devices allowed in the office for repair at any one time will be limited at the discretion of Service Desk Management. Customers may be asked to bring their device at a later time for service.

The Service Desk reserves the right to deny repair services to any device, at any time, for any reason.


Repair service fees are included in student housing fees for students residing in the resident halls. Students residing off-campus will be assessed a repair service fee of $40.00 for each instance. A $25.00 storage fee will be applied if computers are not picked up within two weeks of the first notification that a device is complete and ready for pickup (applies to all students). Fees are applied directly to student billing accounts.

For Faculty/Staff

At this time repair services are not available to faculty and staff. Assitance with setup/configuration of UWSP related services is available, contact the Service Desk.
