Brigid Ferkett

BIO

Brigid Ferkett began her position as outreach specialist for the Museum of Natural History in June of 2023. Before joining the UW-Stevens Point academic staff, Ferkett held a variety of unique roles, most recently as an outdoor instructor and support staff at the Tomorrow River Community Charter School at the Central Wisconsin Environmental Station. She has owned a vegetable, flower and sheep farm in Waupaca since 2012. She’s enjoyed working with children and families through her roles as Waupaca Public Library children’s librarian and working for the Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as an educator.

Ferkett grew up in the Chicago suburb of Downers Grove and was privileged to spend many summers visiting family and friends in Waupaca where her father was born and raised. A love of the natural sciences and a deep connection to plants, animals and Wisconsin rural life drew her to attend Northland College in Ashland, WI where she received a bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Education: Natural History.

Ferkett and her husband have three children and enjoy cooking, baking and spending time with family and pets—outdoors—in all seasons.
