About

The Center for Land Use Education (CLUE) is a joint venture of the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point, College of Natural Resources and the University of Wisconsin-Madison Division of Extension. It was established in July 2000 in response to the advice of College advisors and the effects of increasing population and patterns of development that are at odds with sound land management principles. The Center for Land Use Education provides administrative focus and programming coordination for land use education.

Mission

Our Mission

CLUE creates learning opportunities for individuals and communities to help them make sound land use decisions that result in an inclusive, equitable and sustainable Wisconsin.

Vision

Our Vision

Individuals and communities make well-informed land use decisions with confidence. Their decisions are legally, ethically, ecologically, and economically sound for all people.

Beliefs

Our Beliefs

Inclusive public involvement is fundamental for making sound land use decisions. Natural resources are the foundation of land use decision-making.

Advancing social and environmental justice is fundamental to sound land use decisions and equitable service to rural and urban communities.

We are committed to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism in our work with communities, organizations, and students.

We base our decisions on our mission.

We stand behind our mission and beliefs regardless of our sources of funding or in-kind services.

Any sources of funding or in-kind services will accept and understand our mission and beliefs.

A sustainable society is one that can maintain an adequate or better level of economic activity indefinitely, without undermining either the ecological or social systems upon which the society is dependent, and whose political system retains the full confidence of the citizenry.

Community Outreach

Our specialists, in collaboration with our partners, create learning opportunities for communities by providing up-to-date, comprehensive training on planning and zoning. We assist towns, villages, cities and counties in making sound land use decisions through focused training that addresses specific local needs.

Student engagement

The UW-Stevens Point Natural Resources Conservation and Community Planning major in the College of Natural Resources (CNR) prepares students to guide citizens in making community decisions, with a firm understanding of natural resource knowledge and social science skills.

Classroom teaching, field experience, service learning, and internships ensures that our future planning professionals will have a solid understanding of land use planning and its emerging challenges.
