Academic Programs

Basic Second Language Proficiency Certificate allows students to reach a basic proficiency level in a second language and to gain understanding of the cultural context related to the people where this second language is spoken.

Program participants acquire abilities to teach content both in English and another language (either Spanish or Hmong). You will only be awarded the certificate if you successfully complete the English as a Second Language Minor with K-12 Teacher Certification. The Bilingual-Bicultural Education Certificate is only a few additional credits to acquire. It is administered by the Department of World Languages and Literatures.

The UW-System Collaborative Language Program makes less commonly taught languages (LCTLs) available to students at all UW campuses through distributed learning technologies.

The English education major, offered through the Department of English, is an undergraduate program at UW-Stevens Point that focuses on the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to teach English and language arts to students, grades 4-12. Successful candidates in the program earn a bachelor's degree and a Wisconsin teaching license in English and Language Arts education.

Graduates in philosophy with an emphasis in environmental ethics find employment in the nonprofit sector working for environmental advocacy, conservation, sustainable food systems, alternative energy, and environmental education. Students develop reasoned arguments, present research and gain excellent training for graduate school.

The Environmental Ethics minor is relevant for students of any background, and can be of special interest to students majoring in natural resources, sustainability, geoscience, biology, or natural sciences. It includes courses in Environmental Ethics, Animal Ethics, Food Ethics, and American Indian Environmental Philosophies, along with interdisciplinary classes in English, History, Political Science, or Sociology.

Environmental Justice is a 12-credit interdisciplinary certificate administered by the Department of History and International Studies.

A minor in German offers students a background in the language at the undergraduate level, an introduction to the study of German literary classics, and knowledge of the history of German culture.  Students pursing music and the arts may be interested in a German minor for a better multi-cultural understanding of the arts.

You will be well versed in the culture and literature of German speaking peoples as you pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in the Teaching of German, grades K-12. The Teaching German BA includes a study abroad trip requirement.

Museum Studies exposes students to the wide array of potential careers within museums and related institutions. Students complete introductory coursework in museum studies before taking classes specific to public history, natural history, or the visual arts.

The Native American and Indigenous Studies certificate program emphasizes native perspectives, past and present, with particular emphasis on the sovereign Ho Chunk, Menominee, Ojibwe, Oneida, Potawatomi, Stockbridge-Munsee, and Brothertown nations of Wisconsin. Where appropriate, students may complete their certificate requirements with an internship or other applied learning experience in their major, completed in a tribal business or agency.
