Unique within the University of Wisconsin system, the Native American Center, otherwise known as the NAC, was established in 1978 to "respond to the self-defined needs and goals of Native American communities throughout Wisconsin." Historically, many of the NAC's activities have sought to "empower Wisconsin Indian people through quality education programs and technical assistance."

MISSION STATEMENT: 

To develop and support educational programs, projects, and initiatives to encourage the perpetuation of tribal languages and cultural traditions among Native American communities in Wisconsin. 

To promote fellowship among the American Indian community of central Wisconsin.

To foster the formal and informal educational goals of American Indian people.

To identify, transform, and utilize educational resources that address the needs of Wisconsin tribes in a manner commensurate with the cultural values of tribal communities. 

To advance public education concerning American Indians on the UWSP campus and in surrounding communities.
