Staff-produced images of public campus life, events, individuals, and academic and research activities are used in university advancement, recruitment, marketing, historical documentation and enhancing student success. University Communications and Marketing photography is responsible for documenting the people, places and events of UW-Stevens Point that best reflect the university’s strategic goals and provides campus-related photography for use in approved internal and external publications. All images created by University Communications and Marketing staff are the property of the Regents of the University of Wisconsin System and are available for use by UW-Stevens Point faculty and staff, and with prior approval, off-campus media outlets and publications.

After-hours and weekend requests
Please note: Due to budget constraints, after-hours and weekend photography requests must be approved in advance.
Please allow UCM Photography ample time to secure approval and understand that your request may be denied if the event does not support multiple priorities listed below.
While we appreciate your timely requests, we do not operate on a “first-come, first-served” basis. UCM Photography prioritizes photography coverage to ensure images from campus-related events can be used in multiple internal and external publications.
Priorities for photography
- Advancement, recruitment and web/social media content
- Publications produced by University Communications and Marketing
- News release photos for media distribution
- University, staff and (specially requested) student portraits
Photography suggestions for do-it-yourselfers
Some departments do their own photography or hire freelance photographers. Here are a few suggestions.
- Photograph people from the front, not back.
- Close-ups are more compelling than wide-angle photos.
- Use horizontal and vertical photos.
- Weed out high-contrast photos where highlights, especially of the subject, are burned out.
- If contracting someone to take photos for you, have them shoot in both RAW and JPEG, even if they can’t edit RAW files. That would allow us to (potentially) optimize images which otherwise would be rejected.
- When contracting, consider copyright law. A written agreement spelling out rights of use is highly recommended.
- Take photos at the highest resolution and file size possible. Images can always be downsized, but not increased, without losing quality.
- Absent studio lighting or modified flash, people photos are best shot outside under subdued, even light.
- Look for subjects wearing UW-Stevens Point logo apparel or plain clothes.
- Avoid subjects wearing other universities’ apparel.
