Open Educational Resources (OER)

OER are freely accessible, openly licensed materials that can be used in teaching and learning. The Center for Inclusive Teaching and Learning and the University Libraries are here to support faculty in adopting, adapting, and creating Open Educational Resources (OER). These resources can be customized to fit the specific needs of your course.

Why Use OER?

  • Flexibility: OER are free to access and many OER materials can be printed as physical textbooks or provided as online resources.
  • Customizability: Materials can be adapted and modified to better align with your course objectives.
  • Open Access: Instructors can immediately begin engaging with OER and do not need to wait for publisher access. Students retain access to the textbook, for free, after the term ends.
  • Canvas Integration: Online OER content can easily be shared in Canvas through direct links or Canvas integrations.
  • Immediate Access: Students who enroll late would have had to have the textbook mailed, gain immediate access to the textbook.
