The following students at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point were honored for excellence in academic achievement:
- Anna Franzen, political science and hisotry, was recently recognized on the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge’s (ALL IN) 2026 Student Voting Honor Roll. This year’s honor roll includes 168 students from across the country. ALL IN is a national awards program. By recognizing colleges and universities for their commitment to increasing student voting rates, ALL IN encourages higher education institutions to help students form the habits of active and informed citizenship, make democratic participation a core value on their campus and cultivate generations of engaged citizens who are essential to a healthy democracy.
- Cornerstone Press has recently had multiple titles recognized for the following:
- “The Continental Divide” by Bob Johnson has been longlisted for the prestigious PEN/Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Short Story Collection by the PEN America Literary Awards. This is a significant honor, and first for a Cornerstone title.
- “Signs of the Imminent Apocalypse” by Heidi Bell has been named the Chicago Writers Association Book of the Year for Traditional Fiction. This marks the fourth award citation for Heidi’s book, and her first win.
- Senior physics major Jaxom Blaser is the recipient of an Undergraduate Research Scholarship from the Wisconsin Space Grant Consortium. Jaxom Blaser’s current academic focus is on the spectral analysis of active galactic nuclei using a specialized Python program under the guidance of his advisor.
- Three contemporary voice students placed in the finals of the Commercial Music and Musical Theatre categories at the Wisconsin National Association of Teachers of Singing Fall Auditions Competition:
- 1st place – Anna Clasen, jazz studies – Commercial Music 7
- 3rd place – Becca Guth, jazz studies – Commercial Music 7
- 2nd place – Chris Techlin, music – Commercial Music 6
- The UWSP Opera Workshop production of Handel’s ACIS AND GALATEA has been awarded Third Place from The American Prize Competition (smaller collegiate programs).
- UWSP’s fall production of “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” received the Certificate of Merit in Ensemble Performance from KCACTF (Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival). Joey Thuecks, musical theatre, received a Certificate of Merit for Acting, and Ethan Stokes, musical theatre, and Luke Calaway, musical theatre, received the Irene Ryan nominations for their performances.
KCACTF honors are awards and scholarships given by the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival to recognize excellence in college and university theater. These honors include awards for overall production and individual achievements in areas like acting (Irene Ryan Scholarship), playwriting, design, and leadership. - Lexi Hull, media studies and arts management, received the 2025 WBA Foundation Scholarship recipient. The Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Foundation contribution to broadcasting in Wisconsin encompasses a strategic, long term vision for enhancing, promoting and supporting the broadcast industry by encouraging the preservation of broadcast history, participating in public affairs activities in the State of Wisconsin and providing educational opportunities for professional broadcasters and those who seek future careers in the broadcast industry.
- Students from Pointer Studios earned 3rd Place in Social Media (TV and radio) at the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association Student Forum held at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, WI the last weekend of February 2026.
