What do I need to know about this program?
This 3-hour workshop, designed for beginner to advanced coaches, will cover practical skills and ethical concerns around coaching clients experiencing suicidality.
Starting with new perspectives on suicidality based on the latest research, you’ll learn to apply coaching techniques to address this and other red flags – all while staying in scope. You will see a demonstration of this approach as well as practice having these crucial conversations in a low-stakes environment.
One participant shared, “It was hugely illuminating and so right on in terms of the importance of the new paradigm around this issue. I feel very positive about the concrete steps outlined for me to show up as a coach if and when this subject comes up.”
Upon completion of this course you will:
- Describe a client-centered perspective on suicidality that emphasizes client agency and empowerment, and explain how this approach can enhance engagement and hope.
- Identify indicators that signal the need for higher-level support and demonstrate appropriate steps for accessing and coordinating that support for yourself and your clients.
- Apply strategies within your professional scope of practice to effectively support individuals experiencing emotional distress.
- Use evidence-informed coaching techniques to help clients strengthen self-efficacy, identify sources of support, and articulate a personally meaningful vision for the future.
