Curriculum Focus

The UW-Stevens Point MBA curriculum will help you apply business administration principles and interpret regional economic indicators, policies and trends.

Number of Credits

The 36-credit MBA and includes 24 credits of core classes, 9 credits of elective classes or internship credits and 3 professional development credits.

Class Timing and Format

Courses are offered in person on our Stevens Point, Marshfield and Wausau campuses as mostly 8-week hybrid classes that include a mix of in-person and online sessions.

Our 100% online MBA program includes a combination of live virtual sessions and independent coursework.

Full-Time: Stevens Point (Hybrid)

​Full-time students will typically have classes 2 times per week on Tuesday and Thursday between 4-8 p.m.

Part-Time: Stevens Point and Marshfield (Hybrid)

​Part-time students will typically have classes 1 time per week on either Tuesday or Thursday between 4-8 p.m.

Part-Time: Stevens Point and Wausau

​Part-time students will typically have classes 1 time per week on either Tuesday or Thursday between 4-8 pm.

Part-Time Course Schedule (Online)

Part-time students will typically connect live via Zoom 1 time per week on Wednesday between 4-8 p.m.

MBA Concentrations and Certificates

Electives can be taken as a part of a concentration in the MBA program or earned independently as a certificate.

Required:

BUS 730 – Managerial Leadership through Applied Decision-Making (3 cr)
Strategic management and leadership skills are developed through analysis, discussion, and critique of real-world corporate strategic decisions. The projects and topics may include: case studies of successful and unsuccessful corporate strategies; effective managerial and organizational techniques for achieving corporate objectives; successful program implementation; goal setting; creating a corporate environment that creates employee motivation and excellence; integrating interdisciplinary business information in strategic managerial decisions.

BUS 733 – Project Management (3 cr)
Emphasis on the project management process including planning, scheduling, organizing, and controlling large scale projects. Major topics of strategy, priorities, troubleshooting and use of project management techniques and tools included.

BUS 558 – Managing Budgets (3 cr)
Emphasis on budgets and how they are used in organizational settings including the uses and functions of master budgets, operating budgets, sales, production, and cost of goods sold budgets, cash budgets, and cost accounting. You will also learn to use software applications for the budgeting process.

Optional:

BUS 504 – Developing Skills to Lead and Manage (3 cr)
Introduction to the use of group and individual assessments, coaching theory, and strategy for leadership development. Topics covered include leadership development theory, leadership development planning approaches, use of leadership assessments, coaching theory, stakeholder theory, and boundary spanning leadership.

Required:

BUS 760 – Analysis of Macroeconomic Conditions for Business Leadership (3 cr)
Accessing, synthesizing, and interpreting economic indicators in creating an informed outlook on the macroeconomy. Making strategic business decisions based on understanding the impact of changing macroeconomic conditions on organizational performance.

BUS 770 – Analysis of Economic Development (3 cr)
Analyzes economic development opportunities through markets, government, and community, focusing on applications in regional and rural economies.

BUS 780 – Community and Economic Impact Leadership Seminar (3 cr)
Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships and collaborative opportunities for regional economic advancement. Hone analytic skills, decision-making frameworks, and communication skills.

BUS 705 – Building Health and Wellness Expertise Credits (3 cr)
A detailed overview of health and wellness including wellness dimensions, exercise, nutrition, weight management, stress management, sleep, mindfulness, career satisfaction, financial wellness, relationship health, chronic disease management, alternative treatments, addictions and mental health. Introduction to peer-to-peer coaching.

BUS 732 – NeuroLeadership: Mastering Resilience and High Performance (3 cr)
Introduction to personal, organizational, community, and social resilience, including a focus on processes within the brain that influence performance, decision-making, and interaction. Students will develop skills to lead change, encourage resilience, and manage transitions. Topics covered include wellness, emotion regulation, cognitive flexibility, mindfulness, positive emotions and stress management, and high-quality connections.

BUS 734 – Organizational Wellness (3 cr)
A thorough exploration of how an organization can build a people-centric culture that supports well-being, increases engagement, and fuels results, and how leaders can build cultures of compassion, love, and care. Finally, we’ll embark on a transformational path to purpose and meaning in our lives and work that fuels our search for improved health, wellbeing, and performance.
