The Department of Public Instruction is searching for a talented and motivated individual to be the Coordinator of the High Five 4 College program.  This program serves students in 6th – 8th grade in the Wausau and DCE Everest school districts.  High Five 4 College is an energetic and fun afterschool program providing activities and lessons to teach college readiness skills and college awareness.

Primary Function
 The AmeriCorps High Five 4 College Coordinator will teach lessons, coordinate field trips, arrange for volunteer projects and supervise college mentors. The Coordinator will work directly with the Department of Public Instruction staff and will assist with projects as needed.
 Term. This position is funded through NCCAP AmeriCorps – Greater Wausau Area. The term of service is one-year commitment and runs from 8/21/17 through 8/13/18. Full-Time is 1,700 hours per year. Full time receive living allowance of $12,630 and education award of $5815.00 after completion of term.

 Health insurance is available for full time members and the health insurance policy provided will meet MEC requirements of the Affordable Care Act. Childcare benefits are also available for full time members who meet income requirements.

Preferred Education and Experience
 Successful candidates will have a 4-year college degree, demonstrate outstanding communication skills, and have an interest in working with youth. 

AmeriCorps service offered by The Department of Public Instruction is contingent upon passing a criminal background check.

Journalist Intern

About this Opportunity:

Wisconsin Public Radio seeks a journalism intern to work in our Wausau regional office for the summer of 2017.  The internship experience will provide the successful candidate with solid training in the basics of broadcast journalism and public affairs call-in talk show production.  The intern will develop a portfolio of materials, scripts and possibly audio examples of their work at WPR.  The ideal candidate seeks a career in broadcasting or journalism and possesses curiosity, good writing ability, and strong interpersonal skills.  The position reports to WPR’s Wausau Regional Manager. Applicant can expect to contribute 8-10 hours a week.

 Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

1.Work with WPR reporter to attend news conferences, interview newsmakers, and record and edit audio cuts for broadcast on the Wisconsin Public Radio network. Write story scripts to accompany cuts. Shoot photos and video as appropriate for web version of stories. Attend daily news assignment meetings as appropriate.

2.Work with WPR host and producers to assist in the production of the weekly issues-based call-in talk program “Route 51”, including researching topics, suggesting questions, producing segments, booking guests and writing web articles for wpr.org.

3.Become familiar with technology required to cover news and produce talk-based programming through training with professional staff.

4.After training, use accepted and professional recording techniques, voicing techniques, digital editing techniques and web article writing techniques to create news content for WPR.

5.Final project is to serve as the sole producer for a Route 51 production.

Ethics for Editorial and Executive Staff

1.Keep up on current issues, events and newsmakers throughout the state, especially north-central Wisconsin.
2.Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Qualifications:

•Currently enrolled as an undergraduate college student with a major field of study relating to journalism or communication.
•Knowledge of and interest in current events.
•Good writing skills, including good grammar and spelling.
•Basic Microsoft Office computer skills.
•Ability to work independently as well as meet deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications:
•Attention to detail.
•Clear, articulate speaking voice.
•Experience with non-linear audio editing software.
•Previous experience at a university or other radio station.
