When a member of the UWSP Facility Services team needs help, all they have to do is ask and John Kluck is there.

As a custodial assistant supervisor, John will do what he can, from assisting with the custodial T.E.A.M program to demonstrating something on a computer for a colleague who needs help with technology. Much of it he does outside of his regular duties or in his free time.

While his responsibilities include recruiting and training custodial staff, he goes out of his way to make new employees feel confident and comfortable in their new role. He maintains the Facility Services’ web pages, takes photos at events and creates flyers, videos and publications for the unit. He also works on special projects, such as taking yearly photographs of the grounds and plantings around campus.

John’s service to the university and his co-workers earned him a 2023 University Service Award.

“I am honored to work with John everyday and call him my coworker,” said Tammy Larson, custodial program manager. “I could go on and on about all the things John does outside of his job description every day to help staff here.”

In addition to his work in Facility Services, John has also volunteered as a DJ for the campus radio station, 90FM WWSP for the last 16 years. He hosts a weekly program, “The Jam,” on Saturdays from noon to 3 p.m., featuring classic soul, R and B and funk music. He and his wife donate packages for the station’s annual Radiothon fundraiser, as well as volunteer time and money for 90FM’s popular world’s largest trivia contest each April. He also writes and records his own original music.
