A new, free mobile app has been launched at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point to support campus safety and connections for all UW-Stevens Point students, faculty, staff, families and guests on and around campus.
SAFEPOINT, developed in collaboration with University Police and the Office of the Dean of Students, with support from Housing and Residence Life and the UWSP Student Government Association, is a comprehensive safety app that transforms how Pointers can connect with campus safety personnel and essential support services. SAFEPOINT integrates seamlessly with Pointer Alerts, the university’s emergency communication system, to provide enhanced support in times of need.
“UWSP has an unwavering commitment to campus safety,” said Michele Haywood, chief of Police and Security Services. “This app empowers our campus, parents and community members with the tools and information needed to stay safe and connected.”
In addition to being able to contact emergency resources directly from SAFEPOINT, other safety
features include:
- “Virtual Walk Home” shares your location with University Police so they know where you’re traveling and can keep an eye on you.
- “Friend Walk” allows users to share their location with trusted contacts, who can monitor their journey and contact emergency services if needed.
- “Mobile Bluelight” enables users to instantly share their location with campus law enforcement in emergencies.
The SAFEPOINT app also serves as a digital hub for support services and other campus resources. Students can access mental health support, campus activities and student organizations, connect to academic advising, and find tutoring assistance through the Tutoring-Learning Center – all from within the app.
Students and Pointer families alike will find information about move-in weekend, Homecoming and Family Day and Commencement through periodic updates to the app.
SAFEPOINT is available for free download on both Android and iOS devices.
