The Wisconsin Becoming an Outdoors Woman (BOW) program will offer a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Hunter Safety Certification course at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.

The class will meet on Mondays from 5:30-8 p.m. for five weeks, starting March 28 in the Trainer Natural Resources building, 800 Reserve St., Stevens Point.

This hunter education course will instill in students the knowledge and skills to be responsible, safe hunters and promote ethical use of the environment and our resources. The BOW teaching approach is designed for women beginners, but students of any age can enroll.

Enrollment is limited to 16 participants with a fee of $10. Anyone born on or after Jan. 1, 1973, must complete a hunter education course to purchase a hunting license in Wisconsin. Hunter education graduates receive certification that is accepted in all states, Canadian provinces and Mexico.

BOW is a non-profit outreach education program at UW-Stevens Point, supported by the Wisconsin DNR. BOW workshops focus on learning outdoor skills, balanced between hunting and shooting, fishing and boating, and activities like camping and canoeing. Workshops are designed primarily for women and are learning opportunities for anyone 18 years and older. For more information on BOW and to register for the course, contact Peggy Farrell at pfarrell@uwsp.edu, or 715-346-4681.
