Connect with several authors of lake and river-related books while viewing art inspired by waterways at a public reception offered at the Wisconsin Lakes and Rivers Convention, organized by Extension Lakes, part of the College of Natural Resources at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The event, free and open to the public, will be held Wednesday, March 26, at the Holiday Inn and Convention Center, 1001 Amber Ave., Stevens Point. A cash bar and hors d’oeuvres will be available.
The convention is a statewide event that brings together professionals, students, community members, businesses, and organizations who love water. With the theme “The Power of Words: Working for Our Waters,” the event will showcase the impact of communications, especially when advocating for state waters.
More than 15 authors will attend the reception for an Author Meet and Greet and book sale, including John Bates, Jeff Nania, Ted Rulseh and Geo Rutherford. Three authors, Lynn Markham, Paul Skawinski, and Jill Stukenberg, are faculty members at UW-Stevens Point. Learn more about each author at www.facebook.com/events/893526715909836.
The event will also debut the 2025 Flow Project Art Exhibit, in which Universities of Wisconsin student artists are paired with water professionals across the state to create art inspired by water. Artists will also be in attendance and some of the work will also be for sale.
Five UW-Stevens Point students – Marna Andre, Viella Aprill, Alison Hesse, Liam Kaplan and Maggie McLain – will be among the featured artists who worked with water professionals from the Universities of Wisconsin and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The Wisconsin Lakes and Rivers Partnership has three core partners, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (supplying scientific research, technical expertise and regulatory authority), the Extension Lakes Program at UW-Stevens Point (providing educational materials and programs) and the statewide non-profit Wisconsin Lakes (mobilizing citizens to be advocates for lakes).
This partnership is a statewide, multi-faceted effort that includes regional, county, tribal, non-profit and federal partners. Its goal is to continue to protect and preserve our shared water legacy and support those meeting the challenges that come with the management and stewardship of Wisconsin’s lakes.
