Enjoy a showcase of student creativity at the upcoming annual Afterimages dance concert at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
“Afterimages 2023” will be performed in Jenkins Theatre in the Noel Fine Arts Center, 1800 Portage St., Stevens Point, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Dec. 7-9, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 10.
The show features student directors, choreographers, dancers and designers for sets, costumes, lighting and sound.
“Afterimages affords students the time and space to experiment with their artistry in a safe and collaborative environment, both as dancers and choreographers,” said Arista Detter, senior dance and musical theatre major.
Dance works include:
- “Surreality” by Paige Hoover, a senior dance major and business minor, explores the surreal journey a dancer goes through before and during the act of performance.
- “A Touch of Love” by Jordan Linton, a junior dance and musical theatre major, examines the power of true connection to dissipate the stresses of our chaotic world.
- “Unresolved” by Abby Hermans, a senior dance major, investigates questions that have no clear answers and the feelings that arise from this uncertainty.
- “The Mind’s Eye” by Alisha Raflik, a senior dance major, meditates on the metaphysical concept of the mind’s eye that represents the ability to see beyond the physical realm and access a higher state of consciousness.
- “Chasing the Clock” by Ariel Birkel, a junior dance and psychology major and music minor, explores the intimidating reality that we are all running out of time.
- “MANipulation” by Emily Meyer, a senior dance, drama, and arts management major and media studies minor, investigates feminine energy and power within the backdrop of a patriarchal society.
- “Icarus and Apollo” by Arista Detter, a senior dance and musical theatre major, explores both the grief and the gratitude of lost love and considers what happens if we fly too close to the sun.
- “Unbuttoned” by Elizabeth Pischel, a senior dance and pre-physical therapy major, uncovers the hidden realities and deep emotional truths that we often hide under a buttoned-up persona within our everyday lives.
