Welcome to CWES!

The Central Wisconsin Environmental Station (CWES) is a 200-acre teaching and learning center located 17 miles east of Stevens Point on glacial Sunset Lake. Since 1975, we have been an integral part of the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point College of Natural Resources program and is staffed with professional natural resource and environmental educators.

Our Mission: To foster in adults and youth the appreciation, understanding, skill development, and motivation needed to help them build a sustainable balance between the environment, economy, and community.

We Are Hiring!

Applications will be taken on a first come first serve basis.

CWES Grounds Maintenance (50% time, 20 hours per week)

Clean Classrooms, bath houses, and other buildings.  Snow removal on paths and pathways, including sand spreading.  Paint and stain buildings and fences.  Mowing, weed whipping, and seasonal duties on grounds. Spreading woodchips and patching gravel roads. Working with CWES director to determine appropriate staffing levels during various times per year.  Training staff on the save use of grounds equipment.

Facilities & Maintenance Worker (50% time, 20 hours per week)

Analyze deficiencies to maintenance equipment, repair as needed.  Perform period inspections of mechanical equipment and pumps, generators, air compressors, water heaters and water softeners. Respond to after-hours emergency calls from CWES Director.  Collect and keep updated maintenance logs sheets.  Perform miscellaneous work as assigned.  Work with CWES Director and University staff on CWES building and remodeling projects.  Maintain washers, dryers, food service and custodial equipment.  Inspect, test and maintain fire extinguishers. Perform minor automotive maintenance and repair. Install and winterize CWES waterfront including piers, swim raft, swim ropes, and minor boat engine repair. Repair basic plumbing problems, faucets, flush valves, urinals, and toilets. General work including carpentry, concrete, plumbing, electrical mechanical. Develop awareness of asbestos on plumbing and steam lines and take proper steps in containing and reporting damaged asbestos. Clean coils for heating and cooling equipment periodically. Change heat and cooling equipment filters periodically.
