Spray paint artist Stephon Kiba Freeman is featuring his work at UWSP's Dreyfus University Center as part of Black History Month.

UW-Stevens Point is celebrating Black History Month with art installations in the Dreyfus University Center, 1015 Reserve St., Stevens Point. “Meet Your Neighbor” features the photography of John Nance and “Who Am I?” includes paintings by Stephon Kiba Freeman. Other displays include information on Black Wisconsin history and Martin Luther King Jr. The works are on display outside of the Laird Room on the second floor of the center through Wednesday, March 1, and may be viewed between 7:30 a.m. – 11 p.m.

Stephon Kiba Freeman, a creator and owner of Kiba Freeman Art in Stevens Point and a 2014 alumnus of UWSP, is excited to exhibit works at his alma mater. The collection includes work from when he was a student to work created within the last month.

“I hope that my work evokes curiosity,” said Freeman. “What is black art and what is black history? I am both,” he said.

Inspired by the world around him as well as his children, Freeman has created work across the area, including murals at the Berard Center Boys and Girls Club, Central Wisconsin Children’s Museum, Worzella Publishing and many other indoor and outdoor spaces. Learn more at www.kibafreemanart.com.
