A new scholarship fund will support historically under-represented voices within the UW-Stevens Point Theatre and Dance Department, helping to create a more equitable, inclusive and accessible educational environment for all students.
The Stages to Equity Scholarship was initiated by Tyler Marchant, professor of acting and directing, and a UW-Stevens Point alumnus. “With the world evolving and challenging us to do more to address social justice, systemic racism and centering the voices of our historically marginalized peoples, I began to consider what part I could take in this work.”
Creating a new scholarship is a tangible way to support the change Marchant wants to see in the world, he said. A $25,000 matching gift is available for donations of $1,000 or more to sustain scholarship funds for theatre and Dance students.
The first scholarship recipient is Kaia Fitzgerald, a junior majoring in musical theatre. Learn more about how this scholarship will help her on educational journey.
“Across our programs in the College of Fine Arts and Communication, we recognize that thought-provoking art, riveting performances, and critical media help us understand ourselves and the world around us. The stories we share are made richer when they include many different voices,” said Valerie Cisler, dean of the College of Fine Arts and Communication.
