Ashley Gates

I was born and raised in the Northwest Chicago suburbs, about an hour outside the city. I’ve always been interested in the arts. I was a performing artist for 13 years, acting, directing, and singing in as many performances as possible. I loved every second of it, but I knew that my heart was in fine art. Graphic Design was a clear choice for me thanks to my Yearbook class junior and senior year; I decided to follow my heart and I ran with it.  I transferred to UWSP after two years at my community college, and I knew that UWSP was for me from day one. It was home, from the very first step. I loved my undergraduate experience here, and I want to help others share that same experience in discovering their home and their purpose. You can always reach out if you want to talk about the arts, sports, video games, or have a friendly debate about what REALLY belongs on a hotdog. I’m excited to talk with you about what UWSP has to offer and help in any way that I can with your transition from high school to college. It’s a great day to be a Pointer!

Piece of advice: Always be curious. Ask as many questions as you can come up with. Follow your gut, it’s usually right.
What she wanted to be growing up: I wanted to be an actress! I did theatre all my life until I got to UWSP!
What she enjoys about UWSP: I love that everyone at UWSP is passionate about seeing you succeed and is willing to help you do that in any way
