About
Brent Turney has been the Assistant Professor of Trumpet at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point since 2007. He began his performing career on the East Coast performing in Orchestras, Big Bands, and Broadway Shows. He completed a performance degree at Penn State 2000 performing as featured soloist with the Jazz Bands, Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble. He completed a Masters in Jazz Studies at DePaul University in 2002 and immediately returned to pursue a performance certificate in Orchestral Trumpet with John Hagstrom, 2nd trumpet with the Chicago Symphony. Following graduate studies he was hired by DePaul University as a faculty member where he taught jazz and classical trumpet, directed big bands, and jazz combos. In Chicago he was a very busy classical, orchestral, small group jazz, big band, and commercial performer including 2 years with the Broadway Show, Wicked. He is currently an active performer in the Midwest performing regularly in the Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Chicago areas. He is an in demand clinician and soloist with high schools, colleges, and at jazz festivals in Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois. He has performed in 49 US states and 20 countries. He lives in Stevens Point with his wife Rachel, daughter Anna, and son Micah.
