Comm 322 - Fall 2012 (Digital Photography)
In this introductory class, students learn fundamental principles of composition, exposure and storytelling through images, and basic digital darkroom skills. Each week, they are given a photo assignment designed to help them practice newly acquired technical skills, and to develop their own aesthetic vision.
Some of these students had never used a DSLR camera and had never heard of “aperture” or “focal length” or “motion blur” before stepping into my class. Others came a bit more advanced. All, however, are asked to challenge themselves with each new assignment, photographing subjects they have never approached before, under conditions that are new or difficult, using techniques that they have yet to master.
