As a 2D emphasis art major at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, you will focus on creating work in drawing, painting, photography, printmaking or a combination of these disciplines. If you are interested in pursuing a specific medium, you have the option of working intensively in that area and with faculty. However, all 2D emphasis art students are required to take courses in the 3D or graphic-design area.
Creative professionals are valued employees in every organization. We prepare you for careers specifically in or related to the visual arts. With a degree in art and design, you can be employed in commercial or private firms, government agencies or educational institutions. Some of our graduates even choose to be self-employed, professional artists or craftspeople.
2D art students have many opportunities to display their artwork on campus and in the community. The Carlsten Art Gallery, located in the Noel Fine Arts Center, displays students' artwork in the yearly Student Juried Exhibition, which takes place in the fall. The Student Juried Exhibition is judged by an outside professional and results in awards and scholarships given to outstanding students who entered work.
All students are welcome to join our department student groups. Organizations meet on a regular basis and contribute actively to student life by sponsoring trips, attending special events and raising awareness of aesthetic issues.
The Department of Art and Design is housed in the beautiful Noel Fine Arts Center. Its facilities offer a variety of photography, drawing and painting, and printmaking studios that can aid students in developing their creative skills, while helping them work efficiently and effectively.
