Welcome to the UWSP History Department
Members of the Department of History at UWSP strive through our teaching, scholarship, and community outreach to bring meaning to the present through the study of the past. Our mission is to prepare students to be responsible global citizens, to succeed in a world where broad knowledge, civic engagement, and creative thinking are increasingly important. By exploring the evolution of human societies—their institutions, ideas, and values—our students gain a framework for understanding themselves and the world. They learn to make connections between the natural sciences, the social sciences, and the humanities, and they develop essential skills in research, writing, and analysis. As a result, they are well equipped for careers in a variety of professions, including history, law, government, business, journalism, and education.
