Laboratory Services
at the Wisconsin Institute for Sustainable Technology

WIST laboratory services include analysis and testing for the paper industry including R&D work on the university's pilot paper machine. And we provide sustainability services, including recyclability and repulpability, and compostability testing. We're working to expand the current capabilities of the Paper Science and Engineering Department’s testing laboratory to meet the needs of emerging technologies.

WIST offers recyclability/repulpability certification for corrugated products

FBA logo
In partnership with IPS Testing Services, the Appleton, WI, independent testing laboratory, WIST is now offering repulpability/recyclability certification. WIST and IPS labs were audited by the Corrugated Packaging Alliance protocol technical team, which led to approval for the partners to perform certain tests of the Voluntary Standard for Repulping and Recycling Corrugated Fiberboard. The protocol is used to certify the repulpability and recyclability of wax alternatives for corrugated products that have been treated to improve performance in the presence of water and water vapor.
WIST and IPS Testing in 2011 created a formal joint venture that expands the long-standing relationship between the two organizations. The agreement allows both entities to offer additional tests and overall services to their clients.

Waste Education Center

The Waste Education Center is an excellent training facility for treatment plant operators, engineers, environmental compliance officers and others who may have a need to understand wastewater treatment processes. The waste education center may be scheduled for research trials to determine treatment parameters of various additions to wastewater streams.
