The researchers are working to develop bacteria that will ferment sugar into isoprene, a high-energy molecule that can be used to make jet fuel, or as a chemical used in making tires and pharmaceuticals, among other uses.
The National Science Foundation has awarded the collaboration a research grant valued at nearly $225,000.
