Featuring five miles of trails, a lake, a museum and a bird-watching area, Schmeeckle Reserve is a great place for families to experience the great outdoors together.

The 280-acre reserve on the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point campus was officially dedicated on July 17, 1978, named after Fred J. Schmeeckle, a UWSP professor and the head of the nation's first conservation education department.

The reserve is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.

One of the highlights of the nature reserve is the Green Circle Trail, a 27-mile trail that circles the Stevens Point area. One and a half miles of the trail goes through the north side of Schmeeckle. MORE
