Rainer (Miller) Shooter, Kate Witkowski, Sarah (Holter) Gollnick and Ben Hansen don't have an ax to grind with their competitors.

Honest.

But if you put an ax or crosscut saw in their hands with a timbersports championship on the line, their competitive fire shifts into overdrive.

"People who see me and know me probably wouldn’t describe me as very intense," Witkowski said. "I'm not an in-your-face type of person. But internally I’m pretty fired up when I compete."

Their collective passion for timbersports has been on full display this past weekend and next.

Shooter and Witkowski will compete Friday through Sunday in the Stihl Timbersports U.S. Championships at German Fest in Milwaukee. Witkowski will test her skills in the women's division while Shooter is part of the collegiate division.

The common bond among them are their strong ties to the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
