University of Wisconsin campuses in Marshfield, Stevens Point and Wausau could merge by next summer under a proposal released Wednesday.

UW System President Ray Cross has proposed a restructuring of the UW System, in which the two-year colleges would integrate with the four-year institutions. Under the proposal, according to a statement from the System, the four-year UW-Stevens Pointwould merge with UW Marathon County and UW-Marshfield/Wood County.

"Our goal is to expand access and provide more educational opportunities for more students, while ensuring our faculty are appropriately organized and supported," Cross said in the press release. "We are committed to making the transition as smooth as possible for students, faculty, and staff.”
